Caterpillar Drops $1B on Compact Equipment Capacity Boost
Caterpillar Inc., a leading manufacturer of heavy machinery, has announced plans to invest approximately $1 billion in its Sanford, N.C., manufacturing facility. The investment is designed to expand capacity for compact track loaders and telehandlers, products that support the company's growing Cat Compact business.
The move comes as demand for compact equipment continues to increase, according to Rod Shurman, Caterpillar Construction Industries Group President. 'As demand for compact equipment continues to increase, we're investing to better serve this growing segment of customers,' he said.
The investment will be used to create a modern, technology-enabled manufacturing environment that improves safety, quality, and operational performance while supporting long-term growth. The facility is expected to include advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, digital production systems, and integrated logistics capabilities.
Caterpillar cited the company's longstanding presence in North Carolina, the strength of the local workforce, and existing manufacturing expertise as reasons for selecting the location for expansion.
