Caterpillar Exceeds Expectations with Record Q2 Sales and Expanding Backlog
Caterpillar Inc. reported its second quarter earnings for 2026, exceeding expectations and marking a milestone in the company's history.
The machinery manufacturer generated $20.5 billion in sales during Q2 2026, a 24% increase from the previous year driven by strong demand across all three primary segments: construction industries, power & energy, and resource industries.
Broadening demand for data center equipment drove growth in Power & Energy sales, which rose 17% to $8.2 billion, while Construction Industries saw a 35% increase to $8.3 billion in sales, largely due to higher volume of equipment sold to end users and favorable price realization.
Caterpillar's backlog increased by $9 billion sequentially to $72 billion, representing a 92% rise compared to the second quarter of the prior year.
