Caterpillar Invests $1 Billion in North Carolina Compact Equipment Plant
Caterpillar Inc., has announced plans to invest approximately $1 billion in North Carolina to expand its manufacturing capacity for compact equipment. The investment will go towards constructing a new facility in Sanford, North Carolina, which will increase production of compact track loaders and telehandlers.
The company aims to meet growing customer demand for these machines, used in construction, landscaping, agriculture, and material handling applications. According to Rod Shurman, president of Caterpillar Construction Industries Group, the investment is necessary due to increasing demand: 'As demand for compact equipment continues to increase, we’re investing to better serve this growing segment of customers.'
The new facility will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, digital production systems, and integrated logistics capabilities. Caterpillar has selected North Carolina based on its existing presence in the state, local workforce, and current manufacturing operations.
