Caterpillar Invests $1 Billion in North Carolina Expansion

Caterpillar Inc. is investing $1 billion in North Carolina to expand its manufacturing operations in Sanford.

The investment will go towards building a new facility that will increase production of compact track loaders and telehandlers, two types of construction equipment.

Rod Shurman, president of Caterpillar's construction industries group, said the company chose North Carolina for the expansion due to its existing presence in the state, a strong local workforce, and manufacturing expertise.

Caterpillar expects the project to create opportunities for advanced manufacturing careers and help employees develop skills in areas such as automation and robotics.
