Caterpillar is investing $1 billion in Sanford, North Carolina to build a new manufacturing facility. The project will support the company's Cat Compact business and increase production of compact track loaders and telehandlers.

The existing Sanford facility has been in operation for over 25 years and currently employs around 2,000 people. Caterpillar plans to use its existing workforce to operate in a more technology-enabled manufacturing environment.

The new site will incorporate advanced manufacturing technologies, automation, digital production systems, and integrated logistics capabilities to improve safety, quality, and operational performance. The facility is expected to start producing compact track loaders and telehandlers incrementally from 2028.
