Caterpillar Posts Record-Breaking Q2 Sales of Over $20 Billion
Caterpillar Inc., the leading heavy equipment manufacturer, reported record-breaking quarterly sales of over $20 billion in its second quarter earnings call for 2026. This milestone was achieved due to strong end-market demand across all three primary segments and favorable price realization.
The company's adjusted profit per share reached $8.17, representing a 73% increase from the prior year. Caterpillar's backlog stood at an impressive $72 billion, a sequential increase of $9 billion and a 92% increase compared to the second quarter of the previous year.
Capital expenditures for the full year were maintained at $3.5 billion, while full-year sales guidance was increased to mid-to-high teens growth due to healthy demand and increased throughput. The company also announced plans to restart production of its 10-megawatt medium-speed gas engine platform, which had been stopped in 2022.
CEO Joe Creed noted that the data center market remains a primary driver for Power & Energy, stating that 'no one is slowing down at the moment' regarding demand for cloud computing and generative AI infrastructure. The company has also established Major Projects, a dealer-owned rental joint venture, to supply larger-size class equipment for multibillion-dollar projects.
