Caterpillar Pours $1B into North Carolina Compact Equipment Expansion
Caterpillar is investing about $1 billion in North Carolina to expand its compact equipment business. The company plans to build a new manufacturing facility in Sanford, which will focus on producing compact track loaders and telehandlers.
The expansion aims to support U.S. manufacturing operations and create roles in automation, robotics, digital manufacturing, and production systems. According to Caterpillar, demand for its compact equipment is increasing across various sectors, including construction, landscaping, agriculture, and material handling.
Rod Shurman, Caterpillar Construction Industries Group President, stated that the company needs to increase its investment to meet growing customer demand. The new facility in North Carolina will reinforce Caterpillar's U.S. manufacturing footprint.
