Caterpillar Ranks Among Top 100 Employers in Illinois
Caterpillar, the heavy machinery manufacturer founded in Peoria in 1925, has been named among Illinois' top 100 employers by Forbes. According to Forbes' annual Best Employers by State list, Caterpillar ranked 99th out of the state's top companies. The ranking is based on a survey of over 245,000 employees working at companies with 500 people or more across the United States.
The survey evaluated companies on criteria such as wages and benefits, management style, reputation, flexibility, and career advancement. Employees were asked how likely they were to recommend their company to others, with responses from prior employers and other organizations also taken into account. The data was incorporated into a scoring system that weighs more recent responses heavily.
Illinois' top five employers are Google, AutoZone, Southwest Airlines, Microsoft, and Costco, according to the list. Caterpillar maintains offices and facilities in the Peoria area and across Illinois despite moving its corporate headquarters to Texas in 2022.
