Caterpillar Stock Soars on AI-Driven Power Demand
Caterpillar stock has surged by 75% over the past year, reaching a price of $827 on September 29. The increase is largely due to strong demand for power generation equipment, driven by AI data centers.
The company's Q2 results showed sales of $20.5 billion, up 24% from last year, and a backlog of $72 billion, which is a 92% increase from the same period in 2023. The CEO, Joe Creed, stated that customers are placing orders as far out as 2030.
The rally has slowed down somewhat, with the stock price dropping by 22% since its June high of $1,065. However, analysts remain optimistic, with a mean target price of $976, which is 18% above the current price.
