Caterpillar Surpasses $20B in Sales, Driven by Data Center Demand
Caterpillar, an industrial equipment and machinery manufacturer based in Texas, has reported record sales of $20.5 billion for the second quarter. This represents a 24% increase from last year's $16.6 billion, driven by higher demand for bulldozers, power generators, and other industrial equipment.
The company saw growth across its three main segments: construction, power and energy, and resource industries. The power and energy segment, which includes sales to data centers, accounted for 17% of Caterpillar's total sales with a revenue of $8.2 billion, up 30% from last year.
CEO Joseph Creed attributed the growth in part to strong demand for large generators used in data center applications. He also mentioned that customers are placing orders through 2030, with about 59% expected to be delivered within the next 12 months.
