Caterpillar Teams with FieldAI on Physical AI for Construction Sites
Caterpillar has partnered with robotics company FieldAI to bring physical AI and autonomous systems to construction sites and industrial environments. The collaboration, announced on September 5, 2026, aims to combine Caterpillar's operational data and engineering capabilities with FieldAI's robot foundation models.
The companies plan to use NVIDIA accelerated computing, NVIDIA Omniverse, and digital twins built from operational data to extend automation beyond controlled production lines. Potential applications include autonomous inspections for improved safety and operational visibility, as well as digital twins for insight into equipment, infrastructure, and operations.
Caterpillar also sees the technology being used to improve situational awareness and help identify risks earlier, with AI-driven simulation applied to industrial operations. FieldAI's autonomy technology is described as robot-agnostic, working across robotic platforms using models that combine data-driven learning with physics-based reasoning.
