Caterpillar has introduced the D8 XE dozer, an upgraded version of its D8 next-gen dozer. According to Sam Meeker, a market professional with Caterpillar, the new powertrain is similar to the one used in the D6 and is directly connected to the engine generator.

The motor in the powertrain is tied into the differential steering box, which splits the power between the left and right tracks. This design has been used by Caterpillar since the mid-1980s and provides precision and control while being extremely efficient.

The D8 XE retains many of the features from the regular D8, including its frames, blade options, engine, cooling package, and hydraulics. However, some intervals have been extended for the XC powertrain to make it easier to service.

Caterpillar has also introduced a new weighted ripper designed for heavy ripping in hard rock environments. The ripper features optional counterweights and a retrieval hitch on the back.
