Caterpillar Unveils Electric-Drive D11 XE Bulldozer with Boosted Productivity
Caterpillar has introduced its new D11 XE bulldozer, featuring an electric-drive system that promises to boost productivity and efficiency. According to Caterpillar, the D11 XE can move up to 5% to 10% more material per hour while consuming up to 25% less fuel.
The electric-drive system pairs Cat's C32B diesel engine with an onboard generator, sending power to two electric motors that propel the tracks. This design eliminates the need for a bevel gear in mechanical systems and provides clear, consistent power to the tracks.
Caterpillar has also improved the cabin's comfort features, including a suspended undercarriage, low-effort electronic steering, and a multifunction touchscreen display. Additionally, the company has added various technologies to assist operators, such as AutoCarry and Automated Blade Assist.
The D11 XE is designed for heavy-duty operations, with an operating weight of 238,796-257,959 pounds and a top speed of 7 mph. Caterpillar claims that up to 85% of the dozer's parts are common to the D11 model, making maintenance simpler and more cost-effective.
