Chapek Exposes Disney Drama in Upcoming Memoir
Bob Chapek's memoir 'Behind the Castle Walls' will be released on September 29, offering an inside look at his tumultuous tenure as Disney CEO. Chapek served for just two years, from 2020 to 2022, after being handpicked by then-CEO Bob Iger to take over during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the publisher's blurb, Chapek recounts the 'high-stakes maneuverings' that unfolded behind the scenes, including his decision to shutter theme parks and theaters. He also addresses the backlash he faced from management decisions, public fights with star Scarlett Johansson, and a controversy over Disney's response to Florida's 'Don't Say Gay' bill.
The memoir marks the first time Chapek has publicly addressed the corporate drama surrounding his departure, which was seen as a surprise. Iger had stayed on as executive chairman after stepping down as CEO, leaving Chapek feeling undermined from the start.
