Chapek's Disney Book Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Challenges

In the book, Chapek reflects on a first-time visit to Walt Disney World as a young man, where he was impressed by the 'idyllic' setting of the theme park and the cast members working there. He later discusses how he viewed the dynamic between the company and its unionized workers, who were demanding higher wages. According to Chapek, this led to an increase of over $5 per hour or a 33% raise for the cast members.

Chapek also addresses challenges faced by Imagineering, stating that the team was consistently delayed and that he sent his deputy, Kareem Daniel, to 'get them back on track.' Chapek describes Daniel's approach as 'decisive' in bringing discipline into the creative process, but acknowledges that this caused a 'culture shock' for the Imagineers.
