ChatGPT Comes Home: OpenAI Integrates AI Assistant into Microsoft Word
OpenAI is expanding its ChatGPT integration into Microsoft Word and other desktop applications. The company's latest updates bring ChatGPT directly into Word, allowing users to access AI-assisted writing tools without switching between applications.
The integration places ChatGPT in a sidebar within Word, providing context for the currently open document. This enables users to generate drafts, summarize longer documents, proofread, and rewrite selected passages, all while working within their familiar Microsoft Word interface.
OpenAI is also rolling out Chrome extension support in its built-in browser, allowing compatible extensions to be installed and pinned inside ChatGPT's browsing environment. This includes password-management software like 1Password, which can fill authentication details when ChatGPT encounters a login.
The company is giving Business and Enterprise customers temporary access to GPT-5.6 Sol within Word without counting against their normal limits from September 17 through September 30.
