Chesterfield Residents Rally Against Data Center Revenue Allocation
Chesterfield County residents are rallying behind their local NAACP chapter's call for Google to reconsider its proposed data center campuses. The county's Board of Supervisors is set to vote on a proposal that would use revenue from the project, estimated at $300 to $500 million per building, to lower the car tax rate from $3.25 to around $1.79.
At a recent roundtable discussion hosted by the NAACP chapter, neighbors and civic organizers shared their concerns about how the county should allocate the anticipated revenue. They emphasized that the focus should be on benefiting the community, not just Google's stakeholders.
Chesterfield officials have stated that they are not accepting new data center proposals, but the three Google campuses are already approved for construction. The projects, named Project Peanut, Project Loch, and Project Skye, are expected to bring significant tax revenue to the county.
