Chevron and HELLENiQ ENERGY Gear Up for Seismic Surveys Offshore Greece
Greek authorities have given Chevron and HELLENiQ ENERGY a timeline to launch seismic surveys in several offshore areas, including the Ionian Sea. The announcement follows a meeting between Minister Stavros Papastavrou and Beatrice Bienvenu, head of Chevron's Greece operations.
The companies will explore four blocks south of the Peloponnese and Crete, covering 47,000 square kilometers. Chevron holds a 70% interest in each block and acts as operator, with HELLENiQ ENERGY holding 30%. A separate concession for Block 10 in the Ionian Sea also involves Chevron and HELLENiQ ENERGY, but seismic studies have already been conducted on this area.
The ministry emphasizes that environmental and safety conditions must be met before work can begin, and no timeline has been established for hydrocarbon discovery or production. Confirmation of the announced timeline comes from the Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy alone, with Chevron not providing separate public confirmation.
