Chevron Commits to Boosting Domestic Gas Utilization
Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has committed to raising domestic market gas utilization, spending around $1 billion annually over the past decade on developing Nigerian content.
The company's general manager for corporate affairs, Oduselu Olusoga, highlighted Chevron's partnership with communities in the Niger Delta through the Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMoU) model. This model gives communities greater ownership of their development process and has been reflected in the Host Community Development Trust (HCDT) provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).
Chevron is also undertaking gas gathering projects, including the Meji and Escravos projects, to reduce gas flaring and make more gas available for domestic consumption. The company's commitment to Nigeria remains strong, with ongoing exploration activities in the Niger Delta and partnerships with other major oil companies.
