Chevron Corp. has reassured that its timeline for powering a Microsoft Corp. data center project in West Texas remains intact, despite a recent pause on digital infrastructure permits by Texas Governor Greg Abbott. The energy company is proceeding with permitting, engineering work, and financing, according to Chevron Chief Financial Officer Eimear Bonner. She stated during an interview that these activities are not expected to affect the overall schedule, which targets first power in 2028 and full ramp-up by 2031.
The project's continuity is significant given the regulatory uncertainty introduced by Governor Abbott's suspension of permits. However, Chevron's confidence in maintaining the timeline suggests that the company has contingency plans or alternative pathways to ensure progress. Bonner's comments highlight Chevron's commitment to the project despite external challenges.
