Chevron Expands Digital Subsurface Collaboration with SLB and TotalEnergies
Chevron Technical Center has become the latest member to join the Arena digital subsurface collaboration, a joint effort between SLB and TotalEnergies. Established in 2024, Arena aims to co-develop technologies for reservoir engineering and geoscience. Chevron’s inclusion marks its status as the second global operator in this initiative, contributing investment, intellectual property, and technical expertise.
The collaboration focuses on creating technologies to enhance decision-making in reservoir engineering and geoscience workflows. Chevron will bring its capabilities in uncertainty analysis, optimization, and field development planning to the table. Rakesh Jaggi, president of SLB’s digital business, highlighted the value Chevron adds, stating, 'This collaboration brings SLB’s digital and subsurface expertise together with operator knowledge to help develop technologies for reservoir engineering and geoscience.'
Subject matter experts from Chevron and TotalEnergies will work within SLB technology centers, ensuring operator experience directly informs technology development. Jitendra Kikani, Chevron vice president of Subsurface, emphasized the importance of advancing digital capabilities, noting, 'Through Arena, we are combining our world-class expertise in uncertainty analysis with digital technologies and AI-enabled workflows to improve decision quality, accelerate insights, and enhance operational efficiency.'
Arena builds on previous collaborations between Chevron, TotalEnergies, and SLB, including the Intersect reservoir simulator. The focus will now shift to developing open, scalable, and extensible digital subsurface technologies.
