Chevron expands SLB and TotalEnergies digital subsurface collaboration
Chevron has joined SLB and TotalEnergies in a long-term digital subsurface technology collaboration known as Arena. Launched in 2024, the initiative aims to co-develop scalable digital technologies for subsurface workflows and field development. Chevron will contribute investment, intellectual property, and technical expertise to the project, focusing on uncertainty analysis, optimization, and field development planning.
Rakesh Jaggi, president of SLB's digital business, highlighted the value of combining SLB's digital expertise with operator knowledge to advance technologies for reservoir engineering and geoscience. Chevron's involvement brings additional experience and perspectives to address complex subsurface workflows and field development decisions.
Under the collaboration model, subject matter experts from Chevron and TotalEnergies will work within SLB technology centers. This approach aims to shorten feedback loops between operators and development teams as they tackle increasingly complex reservoirs and growing volumes of subsurface data. Chevron will also incorporate digital technologies and AI-enabled workflows to improve uncertainty analysis and subsurface decision-making.
Jitendra Kikani, Chevron vice president of Subsurface, noted that the collaboration combines world-class expertise in uncertainty analysis with digital technologies and AI to enhance decision quality, accelerate insights, and improve operational efficiency. The three companies previously worked together on the Intersect reservoir simulator, and Arena expands that relationship with a focus on open and extensible technologies for reservoir engineering, geoscience, and field development planning.
