Chevron Faces Backlash from Itsekiri Youths Over Alleged Intimidation
The Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths (UIY) have announced their support for a planned protest against Chevron Nigeria Limited by the Voice of Warri Kingdom Women Initiative, led by Mrs. Vivian Eric Mene.
The UIY condemned what they called 'sundry cases of intimidation' of Mrs. Mene and her group, saying such acts do not serve the interest of Ugborodo Federated Communities.
The UIY stated that despite Chevron's exploitation of natural resources from the communities, there is a lack of basic social amenities, healthcare, employment, and job slots in the area.
The UIY president, Comrade Okotie Joseph, emphasized that their support for the protest is anchored on the spirits and letters of the Nigeria Local Content Act, the Petroleum Industry Acts, and other relevant statutory provisions.
