Chevron Invests $88 Million in Egypt’s Mediterranean Energy Exploration
Chevron has secured an $88 million agreement to explore Egypt's Mediterranean energy potential, as announced by Offshore Energy. The U.S. energy giant will lead deepwater drilling and seismic data reprocessing in the Lotus Area, following an agreement signed between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Chevron. Karim Badawi, Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, witnessed the signing, emphasizing the partnership's role in expanding exploration activities in the region.
The deal involves drilling two exploratory wells and reprocessing 3D seismic data, aligning with Egypt's strategy to boost upstream growth in the Eastern Mediterranean. Badawi praised Chevron's commitment, highlighting the potential for new resource discoveries that could enhance domestic production of natural gas and crude oil. The investment reflects broader efforts to accelerate field development in the Mediterranean waters.
