Chevron joins SLB-TotalEnergies digital subsurface technology initiative
Chevron has joined a long-term digital subsurface technology collaboration between SLB and TotalEnergies, known as Arena. Launched in 2024, the initiative aims to develop next-generation digital technologies for reservoir engineering and geoscience. Chevron will contribute investment, intellectual property, and technical expertise, particularly in uncertainty analysis, optimization, and field development planning.
Rakesh Jaggi, president of SLB’s digital business, highlighted that Chevron’s involvement will enhance the development of scalable digital subsurface technologies. The collaboration seeks to address complex reservoirs and growing volumes of subsurface data, improving decision-making in reservoir engineering and geoscience workflows.
Subject-matter experts from TotalEnergies and Chevron will work directly with SLB technology centers to shorten feedback cycles and integrate operational experience into new digital solutions. Jitendra Kikani, Chevron vice president of Subsurface, emphasized the company’s goal to advance digital capabilities and improve decision quality through AI-enabled workflows.
The Arena collaboration builds on previous cooperation between the companies, which led to the development of the Intersect reservoir simulator. It is intended to expand the use of digital technologies in subsurface decision-making and support the creation of scalable, open, and extensible solutions.
