Chevron Protests Erupt in San Luis Obispo Amid Global Boycott
A group of anti-war activists in San Luis Obispo have taken to protesting Chevron's involvement in Israel's natural gas industry. According to organizers, the company operates and holds interests in the Leviathan and Tamar natural gas fields off the coast of Israel.
The protest is part of a global boycott of Chevron, which argues that the company's operations generate revenue for the Israeli government, ultimately funding the ongoing war in Gaza. Carolyn Krueger, co-chair of the Central Coast Anti-War Coalition, stated that 'So to lease those gas fields and then process the gas, Chevron pays billions of dollars to Israel every year, and that money turns into weapons and IDF for genocide.'
Jehan Mirzaei, a local musician, has joined the cause by playing drums on the corner with a large 'Free Gaza' sign attached to his drum set. Mirzaei uses music as a way to draw attention to the demonstration.
