Chevron Reaffirms Commitment to Long-Term Partnership with Nigeria
Chevron reaffirms its commitment to partnering with Nigeria as the country celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary. The company's Chairman and Managing Director, Jim Swartz, emphasized Chevron's long-term view of Nigeria, focusing on operational excellence, efficiency, innovation, and investment across its portfolio.
Chevron has been a leading oil and gas producer in Nigeria for over six decades, contributing to the country's growth through various initiatives such as oil and gas production, deepwater investment, gas development, local content, human capacity development, and strategic community partnerships. The company supports the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 and the Federal Government's efforts to strengthen the industry's regulatory framework and investment climate.
Chevron has been expanding its assets through exploration, infill drilling, and production enhancement, with a focus on deepwater opportunities, including the Bonga Southwest/Aparo and Owowo/Usan developments. The company is also investing in gas development, with projects such as the Escravos Gas Plant and Escravos Gas-to-Liquids facility, which has supported gas utilisation, reduced routine flaring, and enabled production of high-quality products.
Chevron prioritizes local content and human capacity development, with Nigerians accounting for over 90% of its in-country workforce. The company has established a Local Content Policy since 1999 and collaborates with the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board to create contract opportunities for Nigerian companies and contractors.
