Chevron reshuffles leadership as CEO succession looms
Chevron Corp. has appointed Jeff Gustavson as its new chief financial officer, effective October 5, 2026. Gustavson, who previously led Chevron’s New Energies division, replaces Eimear Bonner. Bonner, an engineer by training, will now oversee the company’s oil, gas, and refining operations.
The leadership reshuffle positions both Gustavson and Bonner as potential successors to CEO Mike Wirth, who has been at the helm for nearly a decade. Chevron typically rotates senior executives through various roles to prepare them for top leadership positions.
Gustavson, 54, has a background in investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, and business planning. Bonner, 52, previously led Chevron’s operations in Kazakhstan and managed the company’s technology portfolio before becoming CFO.
Additionally, Mark Nelson, who previously ran the oil and gas division, will now focus on strategy and business development. Nelson, 63, will continue serving as vice chairman.
