Chevron Smashes Earnings Records Amid Oil Price Decline
Chevron's second-quarter earnings have shattered previous records, coming in at $12.1 billion, or $6.11 per diluted share. This represents a staggering 4.8x increase from the same period last year and marks the company's highest quarterly result in six years.
The stock trades at $187.22, with market capitalization standing at $372.87 billion across 1.96 billion shares. However, despite beating analyst expectations on both earnings per share (EPS) and revenue, the stock has fallen 5.7% below its post-earnings level and 12.8% below its all-time high of $214.71.
Record US production and refining rates contributed to the impressive quarter, with crude unit throughput reaching a record 1.07 million barrels per day. Return on capital employed (ROCE) also hit a new high of 21.4%, surpassing Chevron's trailing return on equity of 6.61%.
