Chevron Stock Rises on Elevated Oil Prices Amid Exploration Plans
Chevron's stock rose by 1.4% on Wednesday, with shares trading as high as $207.00 and last changing hands at $205.2120. A total of 8,246,497 shares were exchanged during mid-day trading, a decline of 23% from the average daily volume of 10,717,504 shares.
Elevated oil prices may support Chevron's earnings and cash flow, with CFO Eimear Bonner stating that there is limited relief from high oil prices in the near term. This could be beneficial for the company's upstream business.
Chevron plans to increase exploration and drilling activity by roughly 50% next year, which could improve future production and reserves but will depend on oil prices and project execution. The company has also secured new Greek exploration opportunities that add long-term upside with seismic research set to begin by the end of the year.
A recent poll by Erste Group raised Chevron's FY2026 and FY2027 EPS estimates modestly, while industry commentary points to solid oil prices, Chevron's integrated model, and midstream operations as supportive factors. However, a proposed U.S. bill that would temporarily ban diesel exports when domestic prices remain above $5 per gallon could pressure refining margins and alter Chevron's fuel-distribution and export economics.
