Chevron Strikes Oil Offshore Angola with Significant Discovery
Chevron has made an oil and gas condensate discovery in Block 0 offshore Angola, according to a recent announcement. The find was made at the 105-4X exploration well in the Lower Congo Basin, where Chevron holds a 39.2% operating interest alongside Sonangol (41%), TotalEnergies (10%), and Azule Energy (9.8%).
The discovery encountered a 2,000-foot oil and gas condensate column with more than 300 feet of net pay in excellent reservoir quality.
Chevron's exploration activities have been focused on finding new resources to replace declining production from legacy fields. The company plans to assess the discovery's potential for development as a tieback to its existing nearby infrastructure, which would provide a capital-efficient path to production.
This is not Chevron's only recent offshore discovery; in April, it confirmed an oil discovery at the Bandit prospect in the Gulf of Mexico with Occidental Petroleum (45.375%), and has also had three near-field exploration successes in Nigeria since 2024.
