Chevron to Begin Seismic Research in Greece by Year-End

Chevron is poised to begin seismic research in Greece by year-end. According to the Greek Energy Ministry, Chevron Country Manager Beatrice Bienvenu informed Greek Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou of this plan during a meeting in New York.

The research will focus on blocks off the Ionian Sea and south of Peloponnese and Crete. Chevron has recently acquired a 70% stake from Helleniq Energy in an offshore block southwest of the Ionian Sea, and also leads a consortium with exclusive lease agreements to search for gas in three deep-sea blocks.

Seismic exploration work is the first step towards assessing hydrocarbon potential before any decision can be taken on test drilling. Chevron did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
