Chevron to Invest $88 Million in Egypt’s Mediterranean Oil and Gas Exploration
Egypt has secured a major investment from Chevron to explore untapped oil and gas reserves in the Mediterranean Sea. The agreement, signed between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Chevron, includes a commitment of at least $88 million for deepwater drilling and seismic data reprocessing in the offshore Lotus Area.
The deal involves the drilling of two exploratory wells and the reprocessing of 3D seismic data, aimed at unlocking new domestic energy reserves. Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources highlighted that this partnership reflects Chevron’s ongoing commitment to boosting exploration activities in the country.
Karim Badawi, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, expressed optimism about the potential outcomes of the drilling activities. He hopes the efforts will lead to the discovery of new resources, supporting the country’s natural gas and crude oil production.
This agreement follows Egypt’s recent push to accelerate field development in the Eastern Mediterranean, demonstrating the country’s focus on upstream growth in the region.
