Chevron to Start Seismic Surveys off Greek Coast by End of 2026

Greek Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou met with Chevron's country head for Greece, Beatrice Bienvenu, in New York on September 22. The two discussed next steps toward shared goals and keeping to the timeline despite a demanding schedule.

Papastavrou confirmed that Chevron will begin seismic surveys in the Ionian Sea and south of the Peloponnese and Crete before the end of 2026. He emphasized the government's efforts to develop and mature Greece's hydrocarbons market, build international investor confidence, while meeting deadlines and environmental requirements.

Papastavrou also spoke at a high-level Atlantic Council dinner, where he highlighted Greece's leading role in shaping Europe's new energy architecture. He stressed that energy should not be used as a tool of pressure or geopolitical blackmail and emphasized the importance of stronger international connections for security, resilience, and cooperation.
