Chevron's Wetlands Damage Liability at Risk in Federal Court Shift
The Plaquemines Parish vs. Chevron case continues to unfold in Louisiana as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decides whether to move it from state to federal court.
In a 2025 lawsuit, Chevron was found liable for causing damage to coastal wetlands and ordered to pay $745 million to Plaquemines Parish.
Chevron is contesting this judgment, seeking to have it thrown out and the case moved to federal court.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill asserts that Chevron should be held accountable for its actions, pointing out that the company never denied dumping four billion gallons of toxic wastewater in the marsh.
