China's AMap Challenges Google Maps and Apple Maps with Live Traffic Light Countdowns

A new navigation app from China has entered the market, challenging Google Maps, Waze, and Apple Maps. AMap, developed by AutoNavi, is quickly becoming one of China's major navigation apps.

The app features live traffic light countdowns, showing users how many seconds remain before the light turns green or red. It also displays traffic conditions and lane guidance, using connected transport infrastructure data.

This feature, called V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything), links municipal traffic control systems directly with the software in these apps. AMap uses this technology to provide users with real-time information about traffic signals and road conditions.
