Chipotle's Sky-High Price Tag: Is It Worth the Premium?
Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) trades at a premium price relative to its rivals, with a price-to-earnings ratio of 28.7 times its past year's earnings.
This makes it one of the most expensive restaurant chains in terms of valuation, second only to Starbucks (SBUX).
However, Chipotle falls short on margin compared to its competitors, such as McDonald's (MCD), which shows a 46% operating margin, significantly higher than Chipotle's 15.4%.
Despite this, Chipotle continues to open new restaurants at a fast pace, with 100 company-owned locations opened in fiscal Q2 2026 alone.
