Christodoulides Urges Faster Progress on Aphrodite Gas Field with Chevron
President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides met with Chevron's President of Base Assets and Emerging Countries, Javier La Rosa, in New York on September 22. The meeting focused on the development of the Aphrodite gas field, a strategic priority for Cyprus.
Christodoulides emphasized the need to move from planning to implementation, maintaining momentum and accelerating progress toward reaching a Final Investment Decision (FID). He also highlighted the importance of energy cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt, with significant prospects for commercial exploitation of fields in Cyprus' Exclusive Economic Zone.
The development plan aims to utilize natural gas from Aphrodite through Egypt's existing infrastructure. The project is expected to strengthen regional energy planning and interconnectivity in the Eastern Mediterranean.
