Chromecast with Google TV Owners Hit by Growing Wi-Fi Problem
A growing Wi-Fi problem is affecting owners of the Chromecast With Google TV. According to reports, the device disconnects from Wi-Fi after it has been idle for a day or more. In some cases, the Wi-Fi gets turned off on its own.
Some users have reported that their devices remain connected but show a 'no internet' warning. This is despite other devices connected to the same network functioning normally. The issue affects both versions of the device: the original 4K Chromecast with Google TV and the cheaper HD model launched in 2022.
Users who have updated their devices to a new software version released in recent weeks are noticing the problem more frequently. Those who use casting, voice commands, or HDMI-CEC to turn on a TV or sound system are particularly affected. They need to reconnect the Chromecast to the network before they can start a show or play music.
Some users have managed to temporarily fix the issue by performing a factory reset. However, those who connect their Chromecast to Ethernet through a USB-C hub have not experienced the bug. This suggests that the problem may be related to the device's wireless connection rather than hardware failure.
