ChromeOS EOL: Google Sets Mid-2034 End Date Amid Googlebook OS Transition

Google has set a mid-2034 end date for ChromeOS updates. The operating system will still receive regular updates and security patches through this period, but after that, devices with an extended support window will be eligible to move to Googlebook OS.

For qualifying newer machines, Google promises to provide direct migration paths to the new operating system. This change affects enterprise and education customers, as well as consumers who have purchased Chromebooks in recent years.

The release of Googlebook management tools for schools and businesses is scheduled for the second half of 2027. At this time, migrated or new devices will use a new licensing structure that has not yet been detailed by Google.
