ChromeOS Gets Extended Lifespan as Google Transitions Laptops to Googlebook OS

Google has announced that it will continue to support ChromeOS until mid-2034, as it begins transitioning its laptops to the new Android-based Googlebook OS. This news comes from a Google support page for enterprise and education users, which states that ChromeOS will receive updates through mid-2034.

According to the support page, qualifying devices bought now whose 10-year support life extends beyond 2034 will be supported in a transition to Googlebook OS. Additionally, many devices will offer direct migration paths.

Google has also said that Chromebooks will receive 10 years of support. The company plans to roll out the first Googlebook OS device management features for enterprise and education users in the second half of 2027.
