CHROs and Employees at Odds Over Essential Skills in AI-Driven Workforce

A new study by IBM's Institute for Business Value reveals that employees and Chief Human Resource Officers (CHROs) have differing opinions on what skills are essential in an AI-driven workplace.

The survey of 1,500 CHROs and 8,800 employees found that while 71% of CHROs believe the ability to supervise, validate, and override AI outputs is crucial, only 29% of employees prioritize judgment as important.

Moreover, 60% of employees worry about their skills eroding due to AI, with critical thinking cited most often as declining. In contrast, CHROs identify critical thinking (57%) and human judgment (48%) among the workforce's most important capabilities.
