Circle Launches Arc Mainnet Amid Senate Setback
Circle, a leading financial technology company, launched its Arc mainnet on Wednesday, just a day after the Senate blocked the CLARITY Act. The launch marks one of the biggest milestones in the company's history, according to Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire. Arc is an open Layer 1 blockchain that has gained significant attention from major players in the financial industry.
The founding validators on the Arc network include BlackRock, DTCC, ICE, Visa, and Mastercard, among others. These institutions have partnered with Circle to support the development of the platform. Over 100 institutional and ecosystem builders were live on the network on its first day, according to Circle.
Circle has also completed the genesis mint of its ARC token, creating an initial supply of 10 billion tokens. However, this does not necessarily mean that the token will be publicly launched. The company plans to shift from proof-of-authority to proof-of-stake in 2027, but this decision is still under consideration.
Speaking to CNBC, Allaire expressed his optimism about the future of the industry despite the setback at the Senate. He noted that policy and regulation are ultimately responsive to what's happening in the real economy. The Arc mainnet launch demonstrates the growing interest in blockchain technology among financial institutions.
