Cisco Confronts AI Conversion Challenge Amid Earnings Expectations
Cisco Systems (NASDAQ:CSCO) has seen its stock surge by 58% year-to-date, making it one of the top performers in the tech sector. The company is set to release its fourth-quarter earnings on August 12, with expectations that revenue will reach between $16.7 billion and $16.9 billion, representing a 14% increase from the same quarter last year.
The key challenge for Cisco is converting AI orders into consistent revenue and stable margins. The company has set a target of $9 billion in AI infrastructure orders for fiscal 2026, with $4 billion in anticipated revenue from those orders. However, there is still a significant gap to be filled, with approximately $5 billion needed to reach the goal.
Cisco's Chief Financial Officer Mark Patterson has indicated that at least $6 billion in hyperscaler revenue for fiscal 2027 is 'reasonable', which is 50% higher than the revenue goal set for fiscal 2026. Analysts are now looking for a convincing plan from Cisco to achieve its targets.
