Cisco's stock price dropped by 2% on Tuesday after Chief Financial Officer Mark Patterson warned of potential margin headwinds. The company is shifting its focus to supplying hardware equipment to AI hyperscalers, which Patterson said 'comes at a different gross margin play.'

The company's move into AI infrastructure has led to strong demand, with Cisco reporting record-breaking results in its latest quarterly earnings report. In the third quarter of fiscal year 2026, Cisco delivered revenue of $15.84 billion, representing a 12% increase year-over-year and beating analyst estimates.

Patterson emphasized that the company is 'very focused on profitable growth' and is aggressively transforming its operations to capitalize on surging demand in the AI market. Despite near-term margin headwinds, Cisco expects AI infrastructure revenue to reach $4 billion this fiscal year and at least $6 billion for FY2027.
