Cisco Stock Surges 4.5% on AI Demand and Strategic Expansions
Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) saw its stock surge 4.5% on Tuesday, reaching a high of $118.40 before closing at $117.94. The trading volume was approximately 20.9 million shares, a 7% decline from its average session volume of 22.6 million shares. The previous closing price was $112.82.
The rally was driven by positive sentiment around AI networking demand, which is benefiting Cisco alongside peers like Arista Networks and Ciena. Investors view Cisco as a key player in data-center connectivity and infrastructure needed for artificial intelligence. Additionally, Cisco’s sovereign-AI strategy highlights its role in providing networking, security, and infrastructure for governments and organizations seeking control over AI systems.
Cisco’s collaboration unit also made strides by expanding Webex into governed client communications through a LeapXpert integration. This allows enterprise users to message customers on WhatsApp while maintaining compliance controls, potentially strengthening Cisco’s collaboration offering. Furthermore, Quantum XChange joined Cisco’s networking marketplace, adding post-quantum cryptography and quantum-safe security capabilities to Cisco networks.
Despite the positive news, there were some cautionary notes. A market report indicated rapid growth in hybrid IT management and cloud services, areas where Cisco competes, but it was not a Cisco-specific financial update. Additionally, investor Steve Weiss disclosed selling his Cisco position due to rising Treasury yields, though this reflects an individual portfolio decision rather than a change in Cisco’s fundamentals.
Analysts remain optimistic, with several recent upgrades and price target increases. Deutsche Bank initiated coverage with a “buy” rating and a $135 price target, while KeyCorp, Morgan Stanley, and UBS Group also raised their price targets. Cisco currently has an average rating of “Moderate Buy” and a consensus target price of $128.52.
