Cisco Teams Up with Infleqtion on Quantum Networking Research
Cisco is expanding its quantum network research by partnering with Infleqtion, a hardware developer specializing in neutral-atom technology. The collaboration aims to explore new areas of quantum computing, including networking architectures that enable data transfer between distributed quantum sensors and computational nodes.
The team plans to tackle the challenge of transporting fragile quantum data from a chip to a fiber-optic network without destroying it. According to Ramana Kompella, VP and head of Cisco Research, 'The next major breakthrough in quantum will not come from building bigger isolated machines, but from networking systems together.'
Cisco's focus on quantum networking is centered around developing the communication architecture needed to scale quantum capabilities. By combining its own expertise with Infleqtion's neutral-atom hardware, the partnership seeks to link quantum devices and sensing technology with Cisco's networking stack.
