Clare Eyes Return of Irish Open in 2029 Following Successful Doonbeg Event
Irish golf enthusiasts may have reason to celebrate as there is 'serious talk' of the Irish Open returning to Clare in 2029. Cllr Rita McInerney (FF) made the comments at a recent West Clare Municipal District meeting, reflecting on the Walker Cup in Lahinch and the Amgen Irish Open in Doonbeg.
The Irish Open had provided an opportunity for the community and Clare County Council to learn from their experiences and identify areas for improvement. According to Cllr McInerney, 'there is serious talk of it returning in 2029.'
Cllr Michael Shannon (FF), Cathaoirleach of the West Clare Municipal District, praised the council staff and local communities for their hard work in hosting the events. He stated that the events had created a positive image for Clare and West Clare around the world.
Cllr Bill Slattery (FG) thanked the council teams in Lahinch for their work during the Walker Cup, while Cllr Ian Lynch (IND) expressed his admiration for the council staff's ability to deliver the events while continuing with their day-to-day work.
