Clearway and Microsoft Launch Community Energy Fund for West Virginia
Clearway Energy Group has launched a new Community Energy Fund in collaboration with Microsoft. The fund will support West Virginia communities over a 20-year period, with an initial $4.5 million round awarded to 13 local organizations. These grants will continue annually and are expected to deliver more than $13 million in total.
The funding supports projects in workforce development, emergency preparedness, education, home weatherization, and other areas identified by a community advisory committee. The committee selected the first-round grantees from the Potomac Highlands region, with organizations such as the West Virginia Community Development Hub and Eastern WV Community Action Agency receiving support.
Clearway's Community Affairs Manager, Callie Dayton, noted that the energy infrastructure continues to build economic strength in West Virginia. The fund is a feature of a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) between Clearway and Microsoft for the Mount Storm Energy Center, a wind project in Grant County.
