Cleveland Unveils Vibrant Mural Honoring Rock Legends

Cleveland's downtown area has welcomed two new art installations as part of an effort to revitalize and beautify public spaces. The first installation, a large mural on West 3rd and St. Clair, honors rock and roll legends Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Wanda Jackson, and Aretha Franklin.

The 11,000-square-foot mural was designed by Kobra, one of the world's top street artists, who has created over 3,000 murals worldwide. The project took almost four years to come together, with Graffiti Heart's Stamy Paul reaching out to Kobra in 2018 and working with him to select a design concept that features the iconic musicians.

The mural was fully funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and Sherwin-Williams supplied paint and materials. According to Paul, Franklin is the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, making this mural an 'ode to the rock era back in the 50s and 60s.'

Meanwhile, in the Gateway District, a new asphalt art project called Signal Flow has debuted at Huron and East 9th. Local artist Ryan Jeanke designed the installation, which was fully funded by a $100,000 Bloomberg Philanthropies grant.
